I became interested after hearing that the parody AV of 'My Dress-Up Darling' had higher production values than the actual live-action drama. It became a hot topic—selling out everywhere and receiving tens of thousands of likes on the lead actress Rika Aimi's thank-you post—so I decided to watch it. To my surprise, aside from the erotic scenes, it followed the anime almost faithfully, except for parts that are difficult to depict in live-action. The recreation is definitely higher than the drama clips I saw online. Not only the heroine but also the cosplay outfits in the film fit her very well. I wish the male actor had worn a samue, though. Since it's an AV, there are erotic deviations that might upset hardcore fans of the original. There's a premise that she becomes the character she cosplays, so she acts like an eroge character while performing oral sex on the protagonist. Also, there's an original scene before the final costume is made. In the original, the heroine earns money for costumes through modeling, but here, she earns it by prostituting herself to teachers at school, and the protagonist catches her in the act. He refuses to make the costume, saying it's wrong to use that money. Later, she brings money earned from a regular part-time job, he makes the costume, and they shoot at a love hotel as in the original. Afterward, she confesses that her 'acting like a character' was a lie and that she did it because she liked him. I think this work had a solid story in its own right.

First off, the two actors were perfectly cast for their roles. I was really impressed by how well the drama parts were adapted. The original elements, like the relationship with the teacher, were also great. It might be a long shot, but I'd love to see a sequel.

*Parody AVs based on anime, games, TV dramas, etc. have existed for a long time, but I think the standards for evaluation have changed significantly since the live-action drama version of this work was announced. The proof is that the reviews here have greatly improved since October 2024. I think that for a normal live-action work, one important indicator would be how closely it adheres to the original work, but this live-action drama had a major flaw in that respect. Parody AVs are originally at a huge disadvantage compared to live-action adaptations in this respect, but the production team made a brilliant choice to stick to the line of ``enjoying the worldview of the work to the extent that it does not damage the original work,'' and in fact ended up surpassing the live-action adaptations. I think it's good that it's now widely recognized that comments like ``it's different from the original'' and ``the costumes are cosplay'' are based on people who don't understand how to enjoy parody AVs in the first place.

I'm not sure if you can call it an 'original,' but for works based on existing material, selection, focus, and adaptation are key. The much-talked-about live-action version ruined an important line that was crucial for the characters' relationship development, which was a shame. On the other hand, this work condensed everything perfectly. It might be a bit much at times, but the story itself is well-crafted. It doesn't just jump straight to the action like typical AVs; the relationship develops gradually, making it excellent as a narrative piece. It seems like a lot of time and effort went into the costumes, too. I'd welcome more parodies like this. It's such a masterpiece that I hope this director continues to make more.
