HBAD-349 - Showas Woman's Elegy: Serving the Superior for the Husband, Caught by the Father-in-law

In the first kiss scene, Hatano starts tangling her tongue before she's even told to 'stick your tongue out.' I wish she had been more conscious of that while acting. Still, I like this series, so 4 stars.

I didn't expect much because of the low rating, but I'd recommend this to anyone who's a huge fan of Yui Hatano. There are plenty of highlights.

Yui-chan is a long-running actress I find myself watching again and again. With her extensive experience on the front lines and even overseas, she delivers a performance that keeps that expertise in check. It’s a work that lives up to its long title. If you don't fast-forward, you might actually enjoy it... Just my biased opinion after watching the DVD.

Yui Hatano gives a passionate performance as the chaste wife of a soldier deployed to war. With her husband away for a long time, the hidden carnal desires of this virtuous woman—who could never bring herself to seek out a man—are fulfilled when she is blackmailed and ravished. Despite her feelings of rejection and guilt toward her husband, the excuse that 'this is for his sake' allows this pure woman to accept the abuse. The actress has a wonderful sense of balance, portraying not just simple hatred or rejection of rape, but the internal conflict of finding pleasure in being held by a man. While simple rape scenarios often lead to one-dimensional reactions, this actress shines when there's an element of consensual sex involved. Watching her reach climax while masturbating, then seeing her thrust her hips and entwine her tongue when being violated by her father-in-law, and finally accepting an internal ejaculation—her liberation of carnal desire is both lewd and refreshing. Her ability to avoid becoming a cheap 'bitch' character is impressive. The cruel twist of hearing about her husband's death from her father-in-law right after being impregnated was good, but the ending where an atomic bomb wipes everything away was terrible. It would have been better if the script showed her resilience, perhaps raising her father-in-law's child in a strange land despite being trampled by the era and the selfishness of men. On a minor note, the fact that she was braless throughout the entire film was a big plus. I'm not sure if being braless was historically accurate for the wartime period, but it definitely added to the erotic appeal.

Seeing one of the legendary(?) actresses we all know wearing triple-folded (albeit sloppily) white socks might be a first and last for her. I recommend streaming this one. Even with an experienced actress, if it's presented as a drama but ignores the period setting, it just kills the mood.
