After her divorce, Reiko finds comfort only in her dog, but when it goes missing, her daughter and son-in-law, Shinji, invite her to move in. Living under the same roof with the young, fit Shinji proves to be too much for her to handle. As his carefree, half-naked presence begins to ignite her hidden desires, a steamy encounter after his shower pushes her to the edge.

The whole thing lacks any sense, it's actually laughable. I don't think the runaway dog plot was necessary at all. The only saving grace is that Makihara-san is a beautiful MILF.
With a talented director at the helm and Reiko starring in a taboo-themed production, I had high expectations, but I was thoroughly disappointed. If the plot is just about a woman filling the void left by her missing husband and pet dog with young studs, then the title 'Mother-in-Law' makes no sense at all. Something like 'The Dog and the Lustful Aunt' or 'My Pet' would have been more fitting. For some reason, it starts with a sex scene with a young man right from the beginning, so by the time she's with her son-in-law, there's zero sense of taboo, guilt, or genuine sexual longing. It’s just a mature woman sleeping with anyone she can find, which is neither interesting nor relatable. If they were going to use the 'emptiness of a missing pet' as a unique hook, they should have added a twist, like portraying the young man as an incarnation of the dog to add a touch of fantasy. A sadly poor piece of work.
