Nana AidaNana feels unfulfilled despite her husband's love, leading her into a secret affair with Sasaki. The bald actor in the second half wasn't really necessary. Wouldn't it have been better to just keep it as a trip with a lover? The cave scene was top-tier.
The intense play in sexy lingerie at the beginning and the blowjob on the beach are top-tier. She's incredibly sensual. However, the subsequent scenes where she's sold off and ravaged by yakuza are just a waste. The play itself and the choice of positions fail to showcase the actress's charm at all.
It captures the love and sexuality of a woman, especially the 'frighteningly' sharp intuition. Nana goes to the beach with Sasaki, who is holding a camera, and lifts her skirt to show she's not wearing panties, saying, 'You're trying to end it, aren't you?' After being offered as a tribute to a business tycoon and suffering abuse, she returns to Sasaki's room and says, 'I'm happy to be of use to you (even after being abused). I'll forget you completely. But you won't be able to forget me. You'll carry this for the rest of your life.' When Nana returns home and her husband says 'Welcome back,' she collapses to the floor. Is this what happens when a woman loves a man with all her heart? Even if it weren't an AV, I think it's an amazing work that fully captures 'that' aspect. Most of the film consists of scenes of them devouring each other, so there's plenty to see. Nana's makeup on her pale skin seemed exceptionally white; I wonder if that was intentional.
She's definitely beautiful. However, the script feels a bit half-baked. It feels like a project that lacked a bit of passion.
The sex scenes are good, but it's also a fantastic drama. At the end, she returns to her husband, so it looks like a happy ending, but... is it really? The husband's final line is very calm and gentle. The protagonist will have to carry that cross from now on. I wish they had dragged out that final shot a bit longer. Knowing the ending and rewatching it, I found the woman's karma and shallowness endearing, which was very exciting. Fantasies about total corruption are fine, but I felt something more immoral here. I'll definitely be checking out more of this director's work.
