I read the original work, and the adaptation is surprisingly faithful. Both are vivid in their attention to detail. As is a strength of the original, the act of sex itself is positioned as having significant meaning within the story. The film successfully translates this, keeping the dialogue and acting alive while maintaining an erotic intensity. There's a unique atmosphere of young men and women who are inexperienced and monotonous, yet high in passion (voltage). Lead actress Ruka Inaba's plain looks match the film's vibe perfectly. While there is a breast fetish, the focus is more on the crotch and buttocks. The finale, in particular, is dominated by a relentless doggystyle scene. Using unconventional direction for a busty lead like Ruka Inaba actually adds a nice element of surprise. If I had one complaint, I wish she had played her haughty character just a bit more intensely.

It's a story about two people who have sex to create an erotic manga for Comiket, but after the sales fall short, they find themselves feeling down and using sex as a way to blow off steam, all while trying to stay positive for the next event. I loved the dynamic between these two—they're drawn to each other and use the manga as an excuse to be intimate, but underneath it all, they're just a sweet, loving couple. Ruka-chan was as cute as ever, and Yano-kun was a great partner. The final scene at the hotel breakfast felt like a genuine high school couple, which was lovely. Keep loving each other and having plenty of fun before the next Comiket!

1. The first sex scene feels like a first time, yet she doesn't seem to be in much pain. Couldn't they have added a voice-over or inner monologue like 'It hurts, but it feels good' during the cowgirl position? The sex scenes feel amateurish, which is fine, but isn't the guy supposed to be a virgin (since he's an otaku)? If so, he should finish quickly once, then change positions and go for a second or third round! It's just the same old tired AV trope. And what's with the swimsuit sex for 'inspiration'? The long-drawn-out handjob followed by a poorly executed long-duration sex scene using a clock was just terrible. What was the point of the hotel scene? Why were they under the covers? Why not show the cosplay? Why stop in the middle of spanking? Why didn't they take their clothes off? Why didn't they finish? And then that confusing rewind effect before 'the end.' 2. Maybe it's because there's source material, but they really need to think more about the story and direction! Instead of filming long, drawn-out handjobs, they should have filmed multiple shorter sex scenes to make it look like they were going at it repeatedly, including the condom ejaculation. Confusing parts could have been explained with narration or inner thoughts. The 'brainstorming' scenes could have been more interesting with wall-pinning or unique positions. Please put more thought into the story.

It's understandable given the current climate, but the depiction of the doujin convention scene was thin, so it's a shame the strengths of the original work didn't come across well. If you're buying it expecting that, you might find it a bit underwhelming. If you just watch it as a standard AV, I personally quite liked the atmosphere.
