I watched it for the period-piece aesthetic, and the courtesan scenes were exquisite. She had that vibe of a low-ranking courtesan in Yoshiwara who isn't very popular and is desperately trying to attract high-paying customers. The story is about her falling in love with a male client, but since he's only there for a good time, the love is doomed from the start. She portrayed those emotions so well. Plus, the traditional Japanese aesthetic suits her eerily well. It has more of a Showa-era vibe than I expected (in a good way). It doesn't feel modern; it retains that subtle, reserved grace of Japanese women. It fits the Showa-era AV style perfectly. It was a great watch.
