It's a super contrived, obvious setup, but she's the type who fully commits to the role, which saves it. After the play progresses, the husband says he forgot something and leaves again. With a woman like Minori Kitagawa who has the power to believe in such settings, you'd expect her to explode and lose all control once the restraint is lifted. And that's how it should have been... But!! The director keeps talking to her!! She's finally getting into it, and he just won't stop talking!!! If it were advice to help her get deeper into character, that'd be fine, but he's so persistent it feels like he's trying to stop her from getting into her own world with the actor.
